Helping Older Adults
The Older Americans Act of 1965 is a federal law that promotes the well-being of Americans over 60. In 1973, amendments to the Act established Area Agencies on Aging (AAA). Our home and community-based services, in collaboration with Arizona’s Department of Economic Security Division of Aging and Adult Services and other entities, align with the Act’s goals to help those with the greatest social need. WACOG’s Area Agency on Aging serves older adults age 60+, adults with disabilities, and family caregivers in La Paz, Mohave, and Yuma Counties.

Caregiver Support
The National Family Caregiver Support Program provides supportive services to family caregivers. If you care for a person who is ill (age 60 or older), a grandparent or relative caregiver of children under 19, or caring for an individual with dementia or brain-related injury, you may be eligible for services.
Eligibility

Adult family members or other formal caregivers age 18+ providing care to individuals age 60+.

Adult family members or other formal caregivers age 18+ providing care to individuals of any age with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Older relatives (not parents) age 55+ providing care to children under age 18.

Older relatives, including parents, age 55+ providing care to adults ages 18 to 59 with disabilities.

Must meet required individual impairment levels.
Services

Respite Care for temporary relief from caregiving.

Reinforcement of the caregiver role through counseling, support groups and training.

Supplemental services (adaptive aids and devices for example).

Assistance in gaining access to other support services.
We created a partnership with Caregiving.com, an online caregiver resource provider. Caregiving.com improves caregiver competency and reduce stress with online articles, videos, tip-sheets, and professional-level training. With our collaboration with CaregiverHelp.com’s co-founder Elaine Sanchez, we created a virtual caregiver support group with bi-weekly sessions.

Attendant Care
Attendant care includes personal care tasks like assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing and toileting. It may also include light housekeeping such as cleaning, laundry and meal preparation.
Adult Day Care
Adult day care provides a supervised community setting for older adults with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and other health conditions that prevent them from being home alone. Adult day care also provides respite care to their caregivers.

SHIP is a national program that offers one-on-one counseling to Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to help them make informed decisions about their care and benefits. Our counselors are available by appointment by calling 1-800-782-1886.

Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP)
The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program empowers and assists Medicare beneficiaries to prevent health care fraud, errors, and abuse. We serve beneficiaries of all ages, their family members, and caregivers. Whether you have questions about how to prevent fraud or you need assistance determining if it has occurred, SMP can help you to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Medicare Savings Program (MSP)
MSPs are Medicaid-administered programs for people on Medicare who have limited income. These programs help those qualified to afford Medicare.
Prescription Savings Program
The Extra Help Program, or Low-Income Subsidy Program, helps qualified Medicare beneficiaries pay for their Medicare Part D prescription drug costs.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is federally funded to help low-income households pay their cooling/heating bills.
